HIRE A DOULA

Research Shows

“Continuous support from a person who is present solely to provide support, is not a member of the woman’s own network, is experienced in providing labor support, and has at least a modest amount of training (such as a doula), appears beneficial.”

Our Students Say

BECOME A DOULA

“I've never been a part of something so beautiful.

All my fears were gone the second I walked into the room and started helping the mom. She said after that she couldn't have done it with out me there. I'm so happy to be a part of these women's lives and I'm so proud to be a member of the birth community. Thank you for teaching me."

Experts Report

“Evidence suggests that, in addition to regular nursing care, continuous one-to-one emotional support provided by support personnel, such as a doula, is associated with improved outcomes for women in labor."

“I cannot sing enough praises to my doula!  I would've been disappointed with my birth had she not been there. I wanted to do it all natural and was hoping for a quick birth. Well, I labored for 28 hours but my doula kept my head in the right spot and it did end up being unmedicated! It was so nice to have her come to my apartment before we went to the hospital.  When they sent us back home, I think my hubby and I would've had a nervous breakdown had it not been for the doula!  But she was so calm, drew me a bath, massaged my feet, reaffirmed my goals, emphasized what to expect and what was normal.  She helped us determine when to go back to the hospital.

I felt so taken care of, she knew just where the supplies were (like extra blankets) so we didn't need to flag down the nurse.  She knew just what to say to help me out, and she never faltered in her belief in me to follow my instincts.  I actually felt that we underpaid her since she worked so hard and for so stinkin' long! And she had nice extra touches like little fairy lights, warm packs, affirmations, flowers, and photos of our most treasured moments.

Last but not least, it was certainly helpful to have the doula so my partner didn't have to shoulder the whole responsibility of support.  We took all the classes, read a bunch of books, but in the moment it was nice to have someone to turn to, rather than us trying to remember what we learned or flip thru our notes!

I felt totally comfortable with her in the room.  I was able to do everything I wanted (like give birth squatting)."
